Good day everyone, it’s Clayton from Planit Canada here. Today, we’re going to talk about one of my favorite tools in CABINET VISION: the xShaping module, which gives you and me, as the designer or engineer, the ability to draw and design very complex forms ahead of our CNC optimization and real-world construction. There really isn’t any shape, any cabinet, any reception desk, any task that is too complicated, thanks to this nifty little tool. Let’s see how to use it and look at some of the advantages of adding it to your program.

I’ve drawn up several cabinets for us to test on, and immediately we’re going to see how the xShaping tool gives us the ability to simply add and modify operations on our parts. For example, we can add holes, dados, cut-outs, or whatever we need to get the job done. On my upper cabinet here, I’m going to add a cut-out in the bottom, maybe like I would want to in order to make space for a range hood. So, I’ll click twice on my upper cabinet to access my cabinet properties. It’s useful that I’m working off of the plan view. Now, I’ll click on the part I want to add the operation to, in this case, the bottom. Once I’ve clicked on that, I’ll click twice again to access the part properties. You can see at the top here, I’ve got a variety of tools to add different operations to my part.

If we want to add a range hood cut-out, I can just click on the rectangle tool and draw a rectangle onto my part. I haven’t measured to ensure the right dimensions or spacing, but once the operation is added, I can use the select tool to click on the part and adjust the width, length, depth, and angle of the cut. I can even specify the tool for this operation or the line for the cutout, whether it’s the center line, left-hand side, or right-hand side. This makes adding a cutout to our parts very easy.

We can also use other tools to add operations like dados and holes, placing them precisely where we need them. The xShaping tool allows us to modify forms and shapes of parts in detail. For instance, we might add notches to the backs of base cabinet ends for plumbing or electrical space. By selecting the end to adjust, I can right-click, choose the edit shape feature, and change the shape, such as adding a notch. The trim tool removes additional lines for a clean form. After checking and saving, the notch is added to the cabinet.

xShaping lets us adjust parts and entire cabinets, enabling the construction of complex or unusual shapes with a click. For example, we can drastically change a cabinet and CABINET VISION will intelligently reconstruct it following preset construction methods. Using the Edit Shape tool, I can create unusual shapes and trim excess lines for a strong shape. Checking confirms it’s all good, and the cabinet is reconstructed.

We can add curves to cabinets, such as for a reception desk, using the bend and offset tools. This creates round shapes quickly. With xShaping, modifying parts or entire cabinets down to the minutiae is easy, saving time on fine-tuning details. Pre-programmed operations also minimize factory time, creating a more efficient workplace.

Adding and Modifying Operations with Ease

With xShaping, users can streamline design-for-manufacturing operations for irregular shaping tasks: e.g., adding cut-outs, dados, or holes to your cabinets. The intuitive interface allows users to click, select, and modify dimensions and specifications seamlessly. Moreover, the tool offers a variety of options to customize each operation, ensuring precision in design.

Detailed Modifications for Unique Designs

xShaping goes beyond basic operations, allowing for detailed modifications of forms and shapes: e.g., adding notches to the backs of cabinet ends or making space for plumbing and electrical components. The Edit Shape feature provides a canvas to craft specific details, from adding notches to adjusting sizes, ensuring a perfect fit for your project.

Crafting Unique Shapes

The xShaping multiplier enables the construction of complex or uniquely shaped pieces effortlessly. Start out with a standard design for a reception desk, then transform into a one-of-a-kind design. CABINET VISION will intelligently reconstruct the new design following preset construction methods. Why let software limitations limit your creative choices? With this feature, draw what you imagine…and manufacture what you draw!

Adding Curves and Bends with Precision

Do you want to design a cabinet assembly with curves? Adding distinctive curves can be executed in a matter of clicks by using the bend and offset tools. The ability to control every operation at both the macro and micro levels provides unparalleled flexibility in design.

Efficiency in Design and Manufacturing

As a CABINET VISION user, xShaping drastically reduces the time spent fine-tuning details. Every operation and shape can be controlled with just a few clicks, leading to a more efficient workplace. The pre-programmed operations also minimize the time spent in the factory, making the manufacturing process smoother and more streamlined.

A Game-Changer for Custom Wood Product Manufacturers

The xShaping multiplier will make a high business impact on woodworking productions that have a strong need for intricate detailing, customized shapes, and efficient design processes. For new and experienced users alike, xShaping offers powerful features that can be employed by anyone.
