Smooth Transitions: Expert Tips for Migrating Your CABINET VISION Software
Our experienced service team has helped many clients upgrade from older versions of CABINET VISION to the latest one. Their decades of experience have taught them how to avoid common mistakes that can cause production delays.
To ensure a smooth migration to the latest version of CABINET VISION, our software solution that combines a custom cabinet software and a custom closet design software, we’ve put together some tips to help you avoid unnecessary delays, headaches, and costs.
Booking 30 Minutes Now Can Save Hours of Emergency Tech Support Time Later.
We suggest booking a complimentary 30-minute consultation with a software specialist. The specialist can examine your unique setup to estimate the time needed to make any adjustments needed to migrate to the new version and flag anything that might cause problems. Hexagon has worked hard to shift the S2M database to SQL, which will have many long-term benefits but will require some of your features to be modified to ensure a smooth transition. Email our sales team to request your free migration assessment.
Jumping Multiple Versions?
If you are jumping multiple versions at once, we strongly recommend allowing a technician to convert your data offline. This will make your migration as efficient as possible and save you a lot of time converting data one version at a time!
Don’t Go Right to Production. Test First!
We strongly recommend doing preliminary testing before migrating all your licenses. If available, install the latest version at a secondary station and run only small jobs through it. This is a fantastic way to trial new functionality, troubleshoot, and check in on any custom work or reports you might have. Version 2024 has many updates that could have unexpected effects on your setup.
Don’t Deploy Immediately!
Installing on a network? We suggest installing it on your server and one workstation. This one workstation would ideally be used by one of your engineers or someone fluent in CABINET VISION who can test all the features you use and make any necessary changes. Once this workstation is ready and fully tested, we can help you deploy it to your other workstations!
Make a Copy of Your Project Before Opening in The Latest Version.
Finish all your existing projects on the earlier version. If you want to open an existing project in the latest version, please make sure to make a copy. Once opened in the latest version the project will not work in the older version. Please keep in mind, this is not something we recommend doing! We highly suggest finishing projects in the version in which they were started!
That’s our best advice! Once you are confident that all small jobs running through the latest version are working as expected, you can go ahead and install the latest version at all stations.
If you follow this process, installing the latest version poses minimal risk. You will still have both the new and earlier versions of the software on your computer(s).
