A package is simply a file that contains some data or some information that we might want to transfer from one Cabinet Vision to the next. The benefit of this is that many of the packages we have available for you include drawer systems, different hardware, different schedules, different UCS’s, which can be installed into your Cabinet Vision, and they’re ready to go after just a few clicks of a button.
Importing and Installing Packages
So, to illustrate the advantages of using a package, why don’t we install one together? To do that, we’re going to click on our Cabinet Vision home screen. We’re going to go to the Utilities tab. And from the Utilities tab, we can click on the Setup Package. But the first thing we want to do is download the package we might want to install into our Cabinet Vision.
To do that, we can visit planitcanada.ca. It’s a fantastic resource, a fantastic website—one of my favorites. So if we click on that, you’ll see, from the main screen, we’ve got the Solutions tab and then the Tools and Packages here. This web page has heaps and heaps of packages already made and ready to be installed on your Cabinet Vision.
So, for instance, if we scroll down, why don’t we install the Richelieu Axial together? You can see, just underneath, what version this package works with. If I click on the download page link and then download the package and instructions, it will download the file to my system.
If I search My Downloads in the file explorer, you’ll see I’ve got the zip file ready there. All I want to do is extract it. So I will right-click on it and extract the file. And I can just extract it there. Right now, if we were to go into the folder, you would see we have this package which contains our Richelieu Axial data.
Using the Import Tab
So, if I were to now visit Cabinet Vision and go to my import tab here, I could open up this file I’ve downloaded. There you go. I can open it up and then click Open. What that will do is begin the process. It will give me a list of all the different elements which are a part of this package. There is a little color code system at the bottom here which will help me see if I’ve got information or data, which is similar or matching to this, already installed on my Cabinet Vision.
If it’s green, it means it already exists and it will ignore it when it goes to install the rest of this data. If it’s red, which is a toggle over here that I can choose to overwrite, any matching information will be overwritten. Or, with the “Use Existing,” if it doesn’t exist, then Cabinet Vision recognizes it doesn’t have anything like this already there, it will display the yellow color.
So I want to install these. There is also another feature I could use, which is “Add a Prefix,” and this will add a prefix to absolutely every single element of this package that I’m trying to install. So let’s say that I’ve just added “New.” You can see now there is going to be a “New” at the start of all of the different parts. This can be very handy if I want to install a package that maybe I’ve already installed, but I’m looking to update it.
So, now that we’ve got that there, we can click on Import Package and we can begin the importing process. Now I’ve skipped through to the finish of this installation. The installation times can vary, obviously. It just depends on the size of the package we’re trying to install. But once that’s done, we can click on OK, and then it will finish loading.
We can close down this menu, and the actual package is already installed and ready to be used in our Cabinet Vision. For instance, if I was to open up a new job and then went to My Cabinet, then My Hardware, and then the Drawer Guide System, I would find the new Richelieu Axial White that I have installed. Even with the prefix, it’s not necessary to add a prefix, but it is an option.
And now, once that’s there, I can click on OK. We’ll add in an object and go to drawers. We can see that I’ve got my Richelieu Axial imported and ready to use. It’s the exact same principle when we try to install any of the other packages available or any other package that we might have accessible in our system.
We’ll talk in another video about the benefits of using packages or backups to transfer data between different cabinet versions also. Thank you very much.

- Reviewing Elements: A list of elements within the package will appear, color-coded to indicate existing data matches.
