Use Your Re-Imagination
by Peter Mate, President of Planit Canada
It’s been 21 years since I entered the woodworking industry. I never knew how much I’d fall in love with it. I owe these years to the passion I had when I was first introduced to CABINET VISION. I remember flying home after getting some initial training at the head office. I had a brick of a laptop and, on the plane ride back, I had it out the whole way just clicking on every icon I could find in the software. 21 years later, that passion is still there. There’s no other design to manufacturing software that has impressed me as much as CABINET VISION.
Over the years, there have been many changes. Some bigger than others. Looking back, I remember some of the major milestones. I remember going from version 3.5 to 4.0. What a jump. Or when the install went from multiple floppy disks to a CD. Funny enough, I had a catch-up call today with a fellow industry colleague that I met in my early years. It made me think of how far CABINET VISION has come since I first started with it.
Today, we have CABINET VISION Reimagined. A huge milestone. As with any big change, there will always be highs and lows. With a big change like this one, it’s inevitable. The goal of Reimagined is to structure the software in a way that’s more human than its features. In the past, there were levels of CABINET VISION and if you weren’t at the top level, you had pebbles in your shoes in the lower versions. The conversation to upgrade led us to look at the feature list to see what was needed. With Reimagined, the levels go away. You need reports? You get the Reports component. You get everything related to reports. Simple. No pebbles.
Sometimes, old habits die hard, and there’s no denying that upgrading to CABINET VISION 2021 comes with its own challenges. I would never go back to using CV version 3.5. At the time, the move to 4.0 seemed daunting, and some were left skeptical. Looking back, it was necessary to continue moving forward. The same goes for CABINET VISION 2021. The future of CABINET VISION is very bright and amazing things are coming our way. Moving to the Reimagined structure is a building block that is essential to propel us into the future. One thing is for sure, CABINET VISION is stronger than ever, and it has a very solid foundation for great things to come. I look forward to seeing where it will be in the next 21 years.
