So, we’ve got this kitchen here, it’s labelled as apartment 1 and 2, but it’s got a little note that unit number 2 is to be a mirror image.
So you can see that this has been fully drawn and it’s got all of the appliances put in, as well as a few notes. I’m just gonna take note that each of these notes is pointing to a specific item. This open shelving is pointing to some open shelving. And even on the elevations we’ve also got notes as well. So we’ll just take note of that. And see how that is affected by it being copied and mirrored.
So, if we go back to the plan view, to copy the room, first of all, we need to go up to this modifications tab, click the little down drop menu, and then down to copy room. So we just hit on that, and we won’t see anything happen straight away, but if we now go to the room drop-down menu, we can see that a copy has been made and just renamed with copy 1 beside the name of the room.
So, if we go into there, it’s identical. What we’ll do first of all is just jump into the room properties and rename the room so that we don’t get confused between which one’s which. So this one’s now going to be specifically for apartment number 2, because we’re about to mirror it. So we hit ok, and we might just adjust the name here on the room as well, apartment number 2. So now we’re ready to go. Hit return.
Now, to mirror this room, all we need to do is just head back up to this modifications bar, hit the little drop-down menu, and down to reverse room. And you can see it says it’s going to make a mirror image of this room. So, we just hit that button, and it will just take a second to work through, thinking of changing it, and there it goes.
So you can see that everything has been mirrored, including all of the little text notes. Even if we go to the elevation, you can see that the text note for the elevation as well has been mirrored. All of the single hinge doors have been mirrored to the placement of the open shelving. Everything’s been mirrored. The only thing that hasn’t been affected is the fridge. This model is set to be opened on the right-hand side, and that is the same in both of these kitchens. So if that was going to be changed, if the fridges were going to be different in each unit, that would be the only thing that you would have to change. In this mirrored version, you can see all the notes have been mirrored as well.
So that’s super simple. All we do, modifications, tab, copy room, reverse room. And obviously, if you copy too many, you’ve also got the delete-room button here. If you hit that one, it will ask you which room you want to delete. You can select the one and hit okay. It’ll make sure that you want to do it so you don’t accidentally delete rooms you need to keep. And that is how the modifications tab works for those features. I hope that’s been really informative and helpful for you.

Why Use Room Mirroring?
Whether you’re designing for a multi-family building or a complex project with repetitive layouts, there are times when you need to create mirror images of rooms. This often happens when the overall design remains the same, but certain units need to be flipped. Instead of redrawing everything manually, CABINET VISION’s copy and mirror tools let you replicate and reverse entire room layouts in just a few clicks.
Let’s dive into how it works.
Step 1: Copying the Room
To get started, let’s say you’ve completed designing a kitchen for “Apartment 1.” Now, you need to create a mirrored version for “Apartment 2.”
- Begin by switching to Plan View.
- Navigate to the Modifications tab at the top, click the drop-down menu, and select Copy Room.
- You won’t see any changes immediately, but if you check the room drop-down menu, you’ll notice a copy has been created. It’s automatically renamed with “Copy 1” appended to the original room name.
To keep things organized, it’s a good idea to rename the copied room. Simply go to Room Properties and update the name to “Apartment 2.”
Step 2: Mirroring the Room
Now comes the fun part—mirroring the room!
- With “Apartment 2” selected, return to the Modifications tab.
- In the drop-down menu, choose Reverse Room. A prompt will confirm that this action will create a mirrored version.
- Once you hit the button, CABINET VISION will work its magic, flipping the entire room layout.
In just a few seconds, you’ll have a perfectly mirrored version of the room, complete with all the details intact.
Step 3: Divide the Cabinet into Sections
Now, it’s time to section off your cabinet to create spaces for drawers and the microwave:
- Switch to the Section Tab and use the Horizontal Multi Split tool to divide the cabinet into three equal openings.
- By default, the openings will be set as drawer separators.
What Gets Mirrored?
One of the great things about this tool is its thoroughness. Everything, from appliances to text notes, gets flipped:
- Text notes: All your annotations, whether on the plan view or elevations, are mirrored automatically.
- Hinged doors: Single hinge doors are adjusted to match the new orientation.
- Shelving and cabinets: Open shelving and cabinetry are mirrored, ensuring a consistent look.
The only exception? Items like fridges that are set to open in a specific direction. For example, if your fridge door is set to open on the right, it will remain that way even in the mirrored version. If the orientation needs to change, you’ll have to adjust it manually.
Step 3: Deleting Unwanted Copies
Made too many copies? No problem! The Delete Room feature is there to help:
- Simply go to the Modifications tab, click Delete Room, and select the one you no longer need.
- You’ll be prompted to confirm your selection, so there’s no risk of accidentally deleting important work.
And That’s a Wrap!
Room mirroring in CABINET VISION is a game-changer for designers working on projects with repetitive layouts. With just a few clicks, you can copy, mirror, and adjust rooms, saving you valuable time and effort.
