It’s important to note that cabinets in Cabinet Vision are not necessarily static. The design isn’t set in stone, which means that my object catalog on the left-hand side here is essentially a list of cabinet designs I’ve saved to this catalog, to this library, so that I don’t have to redraw them every single time I open up a new job. I can sort them and arrange them however I like, but essentially, every time I grab this object, I can bring it onto the wall so that I don’t have to redraw that same design.
However, the wonderful thing about Cabinet Vision is that it can really grow with you as a user. It makes the process of drawing our projects and optimizing them for the CNC as efficient as possible. If you find that during the projects you’re working on in Cabinet Vision, you’re doing the same task or the same repetitive adjustments for every single new project, the idea is: we only make that adjustment once, we save that cabinet to our catalog, and then in the future, we can just grab that object from the catalog and place it on our wall. We don’t have to redraw it again.
The other important thing to note is any cabinet or any object that I take from this catalog, I can modify it to be any other design that I want. For example, I’ve got my pair door in the center of the wall. If I double-click on this cabinet, it’s going to take me to the cabinet properties.
There are a few different areas of the cabinet properties that we’re going to look at to see how we can make certain adjustments to our cabinets. It’s great that we’re at the section view. The section view is where we are going to modify the face and interior of our cabinet. If I click on the section face, you’ll see I can modify different things like the type I am using. I can have a pair door, slide door, drawer, keep it open, or have panels. The attributes underneath will adjust according to the type I am using. I can also modify the face so that I have several equal openings all at the same time. To do that, I’ll remove the face as it is. I’ll click on the horizontal multi-split. Now, if I click on the section face, you’ll see that I can choose however many equal openings I would like to add and what kind of opening type. Let’s add three drawers. Just like that, I’ve now got a three-drawer system, where initially I had a two-door base cabinet.
If I remove the drawer face and click on the section interior, you’ll see that I’m also able to manually add adjustable shelves, roll-out trays, and fixed shelves. To do that, I can use the horizontal multi-split, which will give me the option to add equal openings and different separators. I can also right-click on this space and split vertically or horizontally. If I split horizontally, it will give me the options for an adjustable shelf. I could also split vertically and have the options for a partition or a divider. From this space, I could even split that horizontally and switch between an adjustable shelf or a fixed shelf or a roll-out tray. All these options are available to me.
Those are the benefits of using the section face and section interior settings. You’ll also see when we’re in the section view, we have the properties button at the top here. When we click on that, we have a list of all the properties attached to this specific cabinet. I could change its name, size, construction method, colors, materials, door profile, door material, and hardware. The case option allows changes to aspects like stretches, full top, no top, and no bottom. These settings should be exceptions, not the rule.
We can add scribes, adjust reveals, change toe heights, or remove the toe completely. When making these adjustments, they’re only for this cabinet. The changes I make are intelligent and dynamic. For example, modifying the toe will adjust the ends to continue to the bottom. When making modifications, focus on the section and property tab. Only use the face plan or end view for rare exceptions.
In the section view, use the modifications tab to reset assemblies or remove specific overrides. I can delete partitions or other elements. Once satisfied with a design, save it to the catalog without overwriting the original. For instance, create a “Base Five Drawer” and save it with specific attributes and icon. This allows easy reuse of customized designs.

The Dynamic Nature of Cabinets in CABINET VISION
Contrary to static designs, cabinets in CABINET VISION are highly dynamic. The object catalog serves as a “living” drag-and-drop library, so that you don’t have to redraw the same designs for each new project. This adaptability makes CABINET VISION a tool that evolves with its users, ensuring an efficient drawing and CNC optimization process.
Efficiency through Smart Design Choices
CABINET VISION empowers users to streamline their design-for-manufacturing operations efficiently. If you find yourself repeatedly performing similar tasks or adjustments for different projects, the solution is simple: make the adjustment once, save the cabinet to the catalog, and easily retrieve it for future projects. This intelligent approach minimizes redundancy and enhances workflow efficiency.
Section Face and Section Interior: Precision in Design
The Section Face and Section Interior settings are vital when it comes to making specific adjustments to cabinets. By double-clicking on a cabinet and navigating to Cabinet Properties, the Section View provides a platform to modify the face and interior of the cabinet. From adjusting the type of door to creating equal openings, users can precisely tailor the cabinet to their specifications.
Tailoring Cabinets to Your Vision
The versatility of CABINET VISION shines as users can modify any cabinet or object from the catalog to suit their specific design requirements. As demonstrated by Clayton, our resident Power User, in his latest video, you can watch him transform a standard cabinet into a three-drawer system with just a few clicks. This flexibility ensures that each cabinet meets the unique demands of a given project.
Intelligent Property Management
Understanding the properties of each cabinet is essential for intelligent design modifications. The Properties button in the Section View provides a comprehensive list of attributes associated with a specific cabinet. Users can adjust construction methods, colours, materials, and hardware settings tailored to individual cabinets while ensuring dynamic changes that respond intelligently to modifications.
Strategic Use of Face Plan and End View
While Section View and Properties offer extensive control, users should strategically utilize Face Plan and End View modifications. These views are reserved for rare exceptions where a single part requires distinct behavior. In most cases, focusing on adjustments in Section View and Properties is the key to maintaining consistency in design.
Saving and Retrieving Custom Designs
CABINET VISION allows users to save custom designs efficiently. By right-clicking on a finalized cabinet, users can save it to the catalog with specific preferences. This ensures a quick and easy retrieval of customized cabinet designs for future projects, contributing to a more streamlined design process.
The Art of Cabinet Modification
Mastering cabinet modifications in CABINET VISION involves leveraging the dynamic nature of the tool, understanding the precision offered by Section View and Properties, and strategically using Face Plan and End View adjustments. With these insights, users can create tailored cabinets that not only meet design specifications but also contribute to an efficient and intelligent workflow.
